About Our Founder
Philip Bassil

“The energy transition is no longer a concept—it is a race for bankability. In a market where capital is disciplined and supply chains are tight, Philip Bassil leads the NORTHGREEN CAPITAL team in bridging the gap between visionary ambitions and institutional-grade execution.”
The Bridge Between Ambition and Bankability
Philip Bassil is a strategist, financier, and the architect of high-impact partnerships within the global offshore wind ecosystem. As the Managing Director at NORTHGREEN CAPITAL, he serves as a vital link between the visionary teams building the future of energy and the institutional capital required to fund it.
With over two decades of experience spanning Canada, the U.S., and Europe, Philip has operated at the front lines of the energy transition’s shift from a “future concept” to a global industrial imperative. He doesn’t just see a deal; he sees the long-term alignment of strategy, capital, and regional economic resilience.
A Cross-Disciplinary Edge
What sets Philip apart in the M&A landscape is his “Full-Stack” foundation. By combining a Bachelor of Computer Science (Electrical Engineering stream) with an MBA and deep financial credentials (CFA Level I & II), he possesses a rare ability to speak two languages fluently: the technical language of the grid and the financial language of the boardroom.
This multidisciplinary lens allows him to pressure-test project bankability beyond the spreadsheets, identifying technical risks and value drivers that others often overlook.
The Discipline of Dealmaking
Influenced by a philosophy of purpose and long-term positive impact, Philip operates on three core principles that define the NORTHGREEN approach:
- Bankability Over Hype: In an era of capital discipline, Philip prioritizes project fundamentals. He believes that true vision is proven through rigorous risk allocation and credible execution.
- Relationships as Strategy: He views the offshore wind sector as a global community. In his world, high-integrity negotiation is the only way to build the trust required for multi-decade partnerships.
- Global Vision, Local “How”: Philip understands that while the mission is global, success is dictated by local auction designs, supply chain realities, and specific jurisdictional underwriting.
A Legacy of Execution
Before founding NORTHGREEN CAPITAL in 2022, Philip led Marathon Capital’s Canadian operations for nearly a decade. His track record includes over $10B in referenced renewable energy M&A, featuring landmark transactions such as the sale of Alterra Power to Innergex for $1.1 billion, the Aypa Power transaction with one of the largest investors in the world, New-York based Blackstone and the Germany-based ib vogt acquisition by London-based Dutch Infrastructure Funds (DIF). He started his early career as a utilities analyst providing him with a permanent “downside-protection” mindset, ensuring that the firms and projects he advises are built to last.
